On March 24, 2025, a Self Help Group (SHG) called Kadongani SHG proudly inaugurated their very own fast food outlet near Holy Cross Hospital, Walbakgre, Tura. A dream that once seemed distant but is now a thriving reality. This venture, launched under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) with generous support from Nadir Godrej and implemented by BAKDIL, is not just about food — it’s about empowerment, resilience, and a future full of hope.

The name Kadongani means “hope” in the local language, and hope is precisely what these ten extraordinary women have embodied since they came together to form the group on November 3, 2024. Each of them carries a unique and inspiring story, woven with struggles and perseverance. Some are single mothers fighting tirelessly to provide for their children. Others come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, having been forced to leave their education behind to support their families. A few have battled serious health conditions, yet they refused to let their circumstances define them.
With limited resources but boundless determination, the women of Kadongani SHG learned the art of managing a business — from preparing delicious meals to handling finances. Their fast food shop now stands as a beacon of self-reliance, offering delicious and affordable meals to the community while creating a sustainable source of income for the SHG members. The SHG has shown that when women dare to dream and support one another, they can overcome any obstacle.
Today, as they stand proudly behind the counter of their thriving fast food shop, the women of Kadongani SHG are not just serving food — they are serving hope, one plate at a time.
